Music Monday - More Than A Kiss By Michael Bedford

Happy Monday to all! Picked this 80's song More Than A Kiss by Michael Bedford for this week to start my day, it's a classic.. it's a song that's been close to my heart just because I dreamt of sitting at my aunt's porch, holding a sweet-smelling white rose and  hearing this song as a background music. And up to this day this beat still gets me and makes me pause and listen whenever I hear it played on the radio or on someone else's MP3 player.

Music Monday - Will You Still Love Me? By Chicago

Yey! It's Music Monday!

"Will You Still Love Me?" is one song I really like up to this day. I remember it being shared to me by my niece Faye in 1987, when it was not even played on the airwaves here in our province. I actually never heard of it except through my nieces and nephews singing it for me. The song was quite known in their La Union province first before ours. I can imagine it's still Faye's favorite together with awesome memories.

This song had a special meaning for me too. It's one of those songs that made me fall in love with love itself.. yeah, not with anyone then. It was a song during a loveless moment in my high school life - on my serious senior year whilst fretting about NCEEs,upcoming college entrance exams and doing good in school. Bittersweet recollections :)

"Will You Still Love Me?" is a song written by David Foster, Tom Keane and Richard Baskin for the group Chicago and recorded for their album Chicago 18 (1986). The second single released from that album, it reached #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Music Monday - Summer In The Streets By Menudo

This Menudo fan (Robby Rosa fan, specifically) is at it again because of this 2014 summer heat in the Philippines! This song I love by heart brings me back to the "period of recovery" I had in 1986 when I had to attend summer class in Luzon Colleges Dagupan over this high school Algebra. Weep with me :here: :)

This song Summer In The Streets is my Music Monday feature this week, so enjoy! :)

Info from Wikipedia:
Can't Get Enough (1986) is the 23rd album by Menudo
This is their third album in English and features Charlie Masso, Robby Rosa, Ricky Martin, Taymond Acevedo and Sergio Blass.
This is the third album recorded by this line-up, and would become Charlie's and Robby's last album recorded as members of the group. The songs on this album consist of five brand new songs and four songs from their Refrescante album translated into English.

The album includes the tracks:
  1. Summer In The Streets [3:51] - Robi Rosa
  2. We Have A Song [3:46] - Robi Rosa
  3. Tell Me How You Feel [3:31] - Raymond Acevedo
  4. No One Can Love You More [3:57] - Robi Rosa
  5. Old Enough To Love [3:22] - Robi Rosa
  6. Jumpin' Over [3:25] - Charlie Massó
  7. I Can't Spend Another Day [3:37] - Ricky Martin
  8. Stay With Me [4:00] - Robi Rosa
  9. Marie (I Need You) [3:09] - Sergio Blass

Summer In The Streets was always played on the airwaves, from the Downtown Dagupan public jeepneys - no less! It gave me company - and comfort- during those silent moments commuting daily from our hometown to Luzon Colleges. Well, that summer I got so serious contemplating how to face my senior year on a clean slate. If I may say, that 1986 summer class wasn't that bad after all! :)

Music Monday - The Romantics and A-HA

Two hit songs from my 80s adolescent hood for this Music Monday for me,yay!

The Romantic's "Talking In Your Sleep" was a great hit in the summer of 1984. It was a crowd favorite and I wonder why it personally reminds me of Eat Bulaga's Little Miss Philippines contestant Glaiza Herradura, hmm, now there's another entry to blog about next time :)

"Take On Me" by A-ha is an incredibly awesome music video and a great hit also. It was in early 1985 that the music video was released and often requested on MTV and VH1

Enjoy!

Music Monday - Total Eclipse Of The Heart - Mitoy Yonting & Lea Salonga On The VoicePH

Happy Monday, folks! I'm sharing Mitoy Yonting (with Lea Salonga and Vice Ganda)'s rendition of Total Eclipse Of The Heart. Mitoy is the winner in last night's VoicePH Grand Finals. He's a crowd favorite and the pride of Pangasinan. I don't know him personally but my close friend from Japan has had the privilege of meeting him at a party long before he became a celebrity on the VoicePH. Enjoy!

TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART

(Turn around) every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never coming round
(Turn around) every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears
(Turn around) every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by
(Turn around) every now and then I get a little bit terrified and then I see the look in your eyes

(Turn around, bright eyes) Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around, bright eyes) Every now and then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight and I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right 'cause we'll never be wrong
Together we can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time (all of the time)
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight, forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love, but now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do... a total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life, but now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say... a total eclipse of the heart

(Turn around) bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around) bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time (all of the time)
I don't know what to do, I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart
A total eclipse of the heart

Music Monday - Mr. Mister and Paul Young

A great Monday to all you folks! Just wanted to share this songs that I so miss though I'm not really a great fan. The acoustics and background music simply comfort me. With "Everytime You Go Away", I remember my mom used to joke it's a "scary" song as if you've been scammed by an overnight visitor.. because "everytime you go away, you take a piece of me with you" .. for whatever that meant I think I'm beginning to understand now :) I got to go out again for my massage class, will be back again soon! Happy MM!

Music Monday - If You're Not Here Fabiana Monero and Charlie Masso

I'm back!!! I missed Music Monday for a week because I was working on other quick online income that I really had to do while I wait for my blog to become a hot page ... hahahaha .... kidding! ;-)   Okay, so my intentions for the beginning of the week was to blog about the perfumes that I miss from the 80s, which led me to think of any song that talks about perfume in the lyrics. I was all ready on google search when the lyrics "I need your tender kisses .. the feel of your hands, your caress... your perfume has me burnin' .. my heart's yearning to touch you, I need you so much" rang in my head. And I exclaim  ..of course! those lyrics came from the song from my Fairytale Dreams, a song I know so well by Robby Rosa of Menudo : "If You're Not Here (By My Side)"!!

Well, here's what I'm sharing today, a newer version of "If You're Not Here" performed by the child wonder  Fabiana Moneró and former Menudo member Charlie Masso. I think they're great!

Happy MM!

Music Monday - Blue Kiss by Jane Wiedlin

Happy Monday, folks! Blue Kiss is my most endearing song from 1986. It's one I possibly can sing with my eyes closed because whenever it was played on the radio I would stop whatever I was doing and listen. And I love Jane Wiedlin's sweet voice, and that pixie haircut! :)

Blue Kiss

A blue kiss coloring me goodbye
A new kiss could never feel so fine
Tomorrow I'll be livin in black and white
Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
When I kiss you
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you

Red lips kissin away my fears
A blue kiss bringin me back to tears
Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
Yea, these kisses are blue
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you

 edlin-blue-kiss-lyrics.html ]
A prism of love surrounded us
Don't you see what our hearts knew
How can you chose a one-color world
When you know that I've got a rainbow for you

Last night a spectrum filled the sky
This morning it shattered with your goodbye
Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
When I kiss you
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you

Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
When I kiss you
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you
Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
When I kiss you
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you
Why did it have to be such a blue kiss
Yea, those kisses were blue
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you

Music Monday - Please Be Careful With My Heart (1989)

Please Be Careful With My Heart by Jose Mari Chan and Regine Velasquez was an OPM hit in 1989. I was in second year college back then; and me with my college friends - Rasha Garcia, Helen Pagal and Mina Gallardo - were frequent visitors at the local FM radio station DWID Dagupan to often request for this song.

This Youtube video came from the original music video. Thanks to dhimoet for sharing to us eighties followers. I love how Regine Velasquez looked here, this must be during her heydays at "Penthouse..Live!" together with Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez. Until now, this song is a much-loved classic!

Cheers to those memories! Happy MM to all!

Music Monday - Cruel Summer

A warm welcome for the summer here in the Philippines! Palm Sunday was just celebrated yesterday, people are planning their Holy Week vacation, students are preparing for the summer school ... ahh, the usual hustle and bustle!
A popular song from the 80s when it comes to summer is one I love from Bananarama. Thanks to the uploader of this video for sharing the original MTV. I just love the girls' attire here and the catchy tune as well which I find ironic because I find that summer is so much fun!

 Hot summer streets
And the pavements are burning
I sit around
Trying to smile but
The air is so heavy and dry
Strange voices are saying
(What did they say)
Things I can't understand
It's too close for comfort
This heat has got
Right out of hand

It's a cruel, (cruel), cruel summer
Leaving me here on my own
It's a cruel, (it's a cruel), cruel summer
Now you're gone

The city is crowded
My friends are away
And I'm on my own
It's too hot to handle
So I got to get up and go

It's a cruel, (cruel), cruel summer
Leaving me here on my own
It's a cruel, (it's a cruel), cruel summer
Now you're gone

Gonna feel only it was

It's a cruel, (cruel), cruel summer
(Leaving me), leaving me here on my own
It's a cruel, (it's a cruel), cruel summer
Now you're gone

It's a cruel, cruel summer
Leaving me here on my own
It's a cruel, cruel summer
Now you're gone

Gonna feel only it was

It's a cruel, (cruel), cruel summer
(Leaving me) leaving me here on my own
It's a cruel, (it's a cruel), cruel summer
Now you're gone

Gonna feel only it was

It's a cruel, (cruel), cruel summer
(Leaving me), leaving me here on my own
It's a cruel, (it's a cruel), cruel summer
Now

Music Monday - Little Star by Pops Fernandez

This song Little Star is one of my early adolescent-hood favorites by Pops Fernandez, the "Concert Queen of the Philippines". She was still a rising film star by then though was already quite popular in the music industry. Little Star was a song featured in the comedy movie Give Me Five (1984) together with the wacky trio Tito,Vic and Joey and childstar Jaypee De Guzman. I got to watch the movie again lately as a rerun and had fun and laughter watching - I can't help it because I find Tito, Vic and Joey's antics too hilarious! :))

Little Star Lyrics
Pops Fernandez

I
Little star2x
My one dream is to be where you are

II
The people they laugh at me
Oh why cant they let me be
one day i know you'll see
I am not them, I'm Me

III
Last night the little star
smile at me from afar
Looking down from up above
shining starlight filled with love

IV
Daylight it came so fast
and the night it came to pass
Even stars they fade away
But my little friend, please stay

repeat 1 twice
reapet II, III, IV
Repeat 1, then fade

Music Monday - So It's You

Love is in the air! I'm featuring two of my favorite romantic hits "Shower Me With Your Love by Surface which was an '89 hit;

... and the Philippines' local hit in 1984 from the movie "Bagets": "So It's You" by Raymond Lauchengco (special thanks to Mr.Ruel Mendoza for featuring the film clips on Youtube)

We smiled and that's how it all started,
And you came right in time
When I needed someone
And we said hello,
Suddenly my heart was beating fast.
CHORUS:
So it's you I've been waiting for so long,
So it's you, where were you all along?
Very special moments, these will always be with me,
We are here, you and I, we belong.
We touched and we felt more beautiful,
And two hands reachin' out
Filled with so much longing;
It felt good inside,
There is no denying I'm in love.
CHORUS:
So it's you I've been waiting for so long,
So it's you, where were you all along?
Very special moments, these will always be with me,
We are here, you and I, we belong
So it's you I've been waiting for so long,
So it's you, where were you all along?
Very special moments, these will always be with me,
We are here, you and I, we belong
We are here, you and I, we belong

Music Monday - How Do You Keep The Music Playing

With many love songs I heard, How Do You Keep The Music Playing is one of my best-loved from the 80s. It's so beautiful and romantic, leaves the listener love-inspired. I hope you like it too, happy MM!

How Do You Keep The Music Playing
by James Ingram and Patti Austin

How do you keep the music playing?
How do you make it last?
How do you keep the song from fading
too fast?

How do you lose yourself to someone
and never lose your way?
How do you not run out of new things
to say?

And since you know we're always changing
How can it be the same?

And tell me how year after year
You're sure your heart won't fall apart
Each time you hear his name?

I know the way I feel for you is now or never
The more I love, the more that I'm afraid
That in your eyes I may not see forever, forever

If we can be the best of lovers
Yet be the best of friends
If we can try with every day to make it better as it grows
With any luck than I suppose
The music never ends

I know (how do you keep the music playing)
the way I feel for you is now or never (how do you make it last)
The more I love the more that I'm afraid
(how do you keep the song from fading)
That in your eyes I may not see forever
(Keep the song from fading)
Forever

If we can be the best of lovers
yet be the best of friends
If we can try with every day to make it better as it goes
With any luck than I suppose
The music never ends

Music Monday - Nothings Gonna Stop Us By MYMP

Welcome to my new blog! It's still under construction for my 80's theme that I surely hope to fulfill all my goals for this week. I just feel so positive and inspired this Monday morning that I can't help it... really nothing is gonna stop me :)) I'm featuring this song from the MYMP rendition. This song is a classic for me. It brings me back to my highschool movie review report in 1987 on Mannequin starred by Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattral. Enjoy the great tunes this Music Monday. Happy MM, everyone!

Presenting "A Day In Life" my series of texts from my journals that I kept between the ages of 14 and 17. I'll be adding new entries every now and then to share all my thoughts, ideas, events, experiences, memories, ideas I had during the eighties. It is for my continued amusement that I read and reread my old journals, even when there isn't much content, I still gain occasional insight how I'm still in the process of changing to maturity. Most of the names have been changed to protect the people I recently found on Facebook. A few are just partial entries, my bleeping and blinding exclamations have been removed and some entries have been modified to give way to my now correct spelling and grammar. Yet the mix of excitement, melodrama and pleasant memories from the eighties are still much felt :)I hope, as you read my old journal with me, you enjoy the same sentiments.
