Scent Nostalgia - Perfumes From The 80s

When someone walks past, or stands next to me and smells of an 80's perfume I am familiar with, I feel like going back in time and feel nostalgic over something I can't quite put a name to. And I wonder if the familiar 80's perfume I miss is still sold somewhere and where I can buy it. It's been two decades, and a huge number of new scents introduced in the market every year that some of the 80's perfume scents are left on the back shelf or even on storage. Some, I think, may have been off the market for a long time or may be phased out.

Well, let me jog your memory and mine, here's a partial list of the perfumes from the 80s that I love! And the good news is that these 80s perfumes are still sold by reputable online stores.

ANAIS ANAIS CACHAREL 3.4 oz /100ml Women Eau de Toilette New

Anais Anais Perfume by Cacharel is a scent my big sister- cousin love. She wore it during the office days. I think she got it as a present from a relative abroad, maybe Australia. Occasionally, I would try wearing Anais Anais perfume when I'm off-school and going out with friends. The scent reminds me of fresh cut flowers from Baguio City.

Primo! Spray Cologne  was one of my most favorite for all time. Thanks to a schoolmate-friend at St. Paul's College Manila who introduced the perfume to us young ladies. The fragrance reminds me of strong-scented flowers in mid-spring to summer.

Christian Dior Women's Poison Eau de Toilette Spray, 3.4 fl. oz.Poison Perfume by Christian Dior is a classic favorite by the college school girls and the office ladies. It was pricey, I remember costing as much as one thousand pesos a bottle but it was worth it. The scent is romantic with a hint of berries and spices.

Calvîn Kleîn Obsessiōn Perfúme For Women  Eau De Parfum Spray + a FREE Perfume Obsession Perfume by Calvin Klein is the kind I didn't have personally but only through friends and relatives who have it and share. I love the scent, it's kind of heavy with a mysterious touch.

Coco Chanel Perfume for Women Eau De Parfum Spray
Chanel
Created Coco Perfume In 1984. It Is The Result Of The Following Top Fragrance Notes: Mandarin, Pimento And Coriander. The Middle Notes Are: Rose, Carnation And Cinnamon And The Base Of The Fragrance Is: Amber Vanilla And Honey. Coco Chanel Perfume Is Labeled As A Classic Fragrance.

A particular perfume can also make us feel good and more confident about ourselves, making us feel positive and having the ability to attract friendship and love. Indeed, scents and fragrances often bring back old memories and the emotions associated with it. :) But for most of us, it is still the fragrance that matters on why we choose to wear a particular scent. In the end it is a matter of how we want to project ourselves.

Candy From The 80s

What fun it was in the 80s for us when we were kids during breaktime in school, playtime and birthday occasions. Candies and chocolates we enjoyed during school programs, kiddie parties, Filipino halloween trick-or-treat (yes, I remember we had one in school), Christmas parties and other events. They were often given away as party favors, Christmas candy, halloween candy.

Obviously, I was a child easily pacified by candy. Not that I have a sweet tooth, I wouldn't even say that out loud because of the family dentist , he-he, but that was the nice side too of being reminded by elders to just enjoy but still take care of our teeth.

Let me dig the names from my improving memory : Orange Swits orange slices, After Eight Mint Chocolate Thins (my mom's favorite), Nestle Smarties chocolate candy (the original ones), Mars Maltesers Chocolate (which I remember as Mylikes Chocolate that I received in a huge tin box from Brunei) , Benson's Eclair, Life Savers... the list is long.

Nostalgic candy from the 80s, anyone? Yes, they are still available :)

My fondness for candy, I thank the old candy stores in Manila where there a wide variety to choose from. I thank my mom for the sweet memories, and I share the candies from the 80s which my age group would now regard as their comfort food.

February 3, 1988 - A Day In Life

[I am so inspired today to just go ahead and begin a series of these blog entries I will call "A Day In Life". This series present the text from my journals that I kept between the ages of 14 and 17. I'll be adding new entries every now and then to share all my thoughts, ideas, events, experiences, memories, ideas I had during the eighties. It is for my continued amusement that I read and reread my old journals, even when there isn't much content, I still gain occasional insight how I'm still in the process of changing to maturity. Most of the names have been changed to protect the people I recently found on Facebook. A few are just partial entries, my bleeping and blinding exclamations have been removed and some entries have been modified to give way to my now correct spelling and grammar. Yet the mix of excitement, melodrama and pleasant memories from the eighties are still much felt :) I hope, as you read my old journal with me, you enjoy the same sentiments.]

WEDNESDAY Evening 10:30PM
February 3,1988  020388

Dear Diary,

This is some kind of a day. I'll start it from the very beginning...
This morning, Brendon( changed his name from RF to Brendon now) was not so late in coming to school. After checking our test papers in Filipino, he went to the faculty  room and volunteered to distribute the envelopes and of course, my envelope was there. But, Dan, our other classmate, offered to help him (OH!) and unfortunately, my envelope was given to me by Dan. (Aargh!)

But then later, a campaign brochure from Baguio Colleges Foundation (now University of the Cordilleras) and the college courses offered were distributed. I was talking to my guy seatmate Daryl, just asking about the course descriptions.
Me: "What is BSE?"
Daryl: "It's a course for teachers, of course!"
Me: "For highschool teachers?"
Daryl :"Yeah"
Me: "But what is this CMT and CAT? Can ladies enroll in this course? Maybe there are plenty of handsome guys here, eh?"
Daryl : (laughing) "Ha-ha. You're kidding, right?"
Me: " I had to ask!" More giggles.
Me: "Ok, now I know what course I'll take up. This is really it... BSE HISTORY MAJOR!"  [I loved history subjects because of all the hilarious stories by our effervescent history teachers.]
Daryl : (shrugs) "Sure you can..."
Me: " I'll be a teacher and would be teaching in this school. By then there would be plenty of handsome co-teachers too!" [Was only jesting for amusement] So that conversation lasted until I read more details to ask about.... Just then, Brendon came up beside   Daryl and held the same brochure that I was holding that time. Brendon and I both looked/gazed/stared (whatever) at each other for a few seconds, and I shivered. But oops,   Daryl said to Brendon: "Pare, this is Red's" So Brendon goes apologetically: "Okay.." Then went away. Aaargh! To  Daryl!

This afternoon, Brendon went in very late around 1:45PM. A visitor from the EARN computer school was  promoting their courses and encouraging us to study in their school. Around that time, Brendon came in but no one got distracted anyway. Later, our class took a scholarship exam for 30 minutes. A long time of silence. Then the proctor asked: "Is it difficult?" We all gave out a giggle. Brendon, who was seated at the far corner, said: "Chicken feed!".. haha, I said to Daryl: (who was seated just behind us - and copying my answers): "Hmm, we'll see!" Anyways, no time for that now.

Oh and much later, the wall between our room and the Aguinaldo section's room fell over the head of Sheila - Brendon's ex. I glanced quickly at Brendon seeing his expression if he will care for her. Nothing there. I think he sort of felt sorry for her but just smiled to himself. We all went back to our work. After the exam, Brendon went out to play basketball at the STHS court.

Other topic, I have something very very important to tell you, dear diary, and I fear it will happen. Matt, my 11-year-old nephew, is not so happy and said the world will end soon this March 18,1988 right after the eclipse. I'm praying that it won't happen. I hope God will not get angry at us here on earth, I'll try to be good already. Okay good night, dear diary.

[Now I think this was an awesome day :) All the people I mention here are every now and then in touch with me thanks to Facebook. Who's Brendon, you say? He's a former classmate for whom I've had a great silly crush- just like that. No, he never knew and only one or two close friends knew. Anyways, these were my best days so to speak]

Here was my next Entry

How Much Do You Know About 80s Music?

You Scored 100% Correct

You are an 80s expert,
You never confuse New Order with the Pet Shop Boys.
You know which classical musician Falco rocked.
When it comes to 80s music, you Just Can't Get Enough!

Oh, yes! That photo above was from the music video of "Take On Me" by A-ha!

Amazing that I happened to score 100 percent in this blog quiz :) I must've guessed the right answers as there is still much for me to know and pay attention to about the 80s music. I remember all I did back then was listen to the leading FM radio stations and made a mental note of the singers and groups who sang the songs. The rest of the trivia I know was possibly gotten from the Jingle songhits I regularly read for entertainment.

I wonder, how do you score in this blog quiz? Share your results as a comment! :)
