These are just a few of my most cherished photos of my mom. There are times I miss her a lot. Every Mother's Day, I think about the sacrifices she has done for me. She was all I had then, and I was her only child. I am thankful for her love and guidance especially during my formative years...

Scent Nostalgia - Perfumes From The 80s

When someone walks past, or stands next to me and smells of an 80's perfume I am familiar with, I feel like going back in time and feel nostalgic over something I can't quite put a name to. And I wonder if the familiar 80's perfume I miss is still sold somewhere and where I can buy it. It's been two decades, and a huge number of new scents introduced in the market every year that some of the 80's perfume scents are left on the back shelf or even on storage. Some, I think, may have been off the market for a long time or may be phased out.

Well, let me jog your memory and mine, here's a partial list of the perfumes from the 80s that I love! And the good news is that these 80s perfumes are still sold by reputable online stores.

ANAIS ANAIS CACHAREL 3.4 oz /100ml Women Eau de Toilette New

Anais Anais Perfume by Cacharel is a scent my big sister- cousin love. She wore it during the office days. I think she got it as a present from a relative abroad, maybe Australia. Occasionally, I would try wearing Anais Anais perfume when I'm off-school and going out with friends. The scent reminds me of fresh cut flowers from Baguio City.

Primo! Spray Cologne  was one of my most favorite for all time. Thanks to a schoolmate-friend at St. Paul's College Manila who introduced the perfume to us young ladies. The fragrance reminds me of strong-scented flowers in mid-spring to summer.

Christian Dior Women's Poison Eau de Toilette Spray, 3.4 fl. oz.Poison Perfume by Christian Dior is a classic favorite by the college school girls and the office ladies. It was pricey, I remember costing as much as one thousand pesos a bottle but it was worth it. The scent is romantic with a hint of berries and spices.

Calvîn Kleîn Obsessiōn Perfúme For Women  Eau De Parfum Spray + a FREE Perfume Obsession Perfume by Calvin Klein is the kind I didn't have personally but only through friends and relatives who have it and share. I love the scent, it's kind of heavy with a mysterious touch.

Coco Chanel Perfume for Women Eau De Parfum Spray
Chanel
Created Coco Perfume In 1984. It Is The Result Of The Following Top Fragrance Notes: Mandarin, Pimento And Coriander. The Middle Notes Are: Rose, Carnation And Cinnamon And The Base Of The Fragrance Is: Amber Vanilla And Honey. Coco Chanel Perfume Is Labeled As A Classic Fragrance.

A particular perfume can also make us feel good and more confident about ourselves, making us feel positive and having the ability to attract friendship and love. Indeed, scents and fragrances often bring back old memories and the emotions associated with it. :) But for most of us, it is still the fragrance that matters on why we choose to wear a particular scent. In the end it is a matter of how we want to project ourselves.

Music Monday - If You're Not Here Fabiana Monero and Charlie Masso

I'm back!!! I missed Music Monday for a week because I was working on other quick online income that I really had to do while I wait for my blog to become a hot page ... hahahaha .... kidding! ;-)   Okay, so my intentions for the beginning of the week was to blog about the perfumes that I miss from the 80s, which led me to think of any song that talks about perfume in the lyrics. I was all ready on google search when the lyrics "I need your tender kisses .. the feel of your hands, your caress... your perfume has me burnin' .. my heart's yearning to touch you, I need you so much" rang in my head. And I exclaim  ..of course! those lyrics came from the song from my Fairytale Dreams, a song I know so well by Robby Rosa of Menudo : "If You're Not Here (By My Side)"!!

Well, here's what I'm sharing today, a newer version of "If You're Not Here" performed by the child wonder  Fabiana Moneró and former Menudo member Charlie Masso. I think they're great!

Happy MM!

80's Movie Meme - Some Kind Of Wonderful 1987

Some  Kind Of Wonderful 1987 was one of the movies I watched in 1988 when it was shown on the local theaters in Manila. I was in first year college then at an all-girls school. A college friend recommended this movie to us, saying that "it was very touching" So I went to see the movie, I think - together with my "big sister" cousin Ate Edith, at the Quad Cinema in Makati. It sure was fun and romantic! :)

Some Kind Of Wonderful was another movie hit produced by John Hughes. Starred by  Eric Stoltz, Mary Stuart-Masterson, Lea Thompson, Craig Sheffer, Elias Koteas ( the punk friend of Watts), Chynna Phillips and  even the young Jane Elliot and Candace Cameron were in it!

There were some parts in the movie that I found quite challenging to do, like hanging out with the Class A group and still get better grades. As I watch the movie again, because I am now a parent, I love the father's zest to send his son off to college by encouraging him to save money aside for his college tuition. Quite smart move :)

Music Monday - Blue Kiss by Jane Wiedlin

Happy Monday, folks! Blue Kiss is my most endearing song from 1986. It's one I possibly can sing with my eyes closed because whenever it was played on the radio I would stop whatever I was doing and listen. And I love Jane Wiedlin's sweet voice, and that pixie haircut! :)

Blue Kiss

A blue kiss coloring me goodbye
A new kiss could never feel so fine
Tomorrow I'll be livin in black and white
Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
When I kiss you
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you

Red lips kissin away my fears
A blue kiss bringin me back to tears
Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
Yea, these kisses are blue
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you

 edlin-blue-kiss-lyrics.html ]
A prism of love surrounded us
Don't you see what our hearts knew
How can you chose a one-color world
When you know that I've got a rainbow for you

Last night a spectrum filled the sky
This morning it shattered with your goodbye
Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
When I kiss you
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you

Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
When I kiss you
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you
Why does it have to be such a blue kiss
When I kiss you
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you
Why did it have to be such a blue kiss
Yea, those kisses were blue
Now I color my world with a blue kiss
I've got kisses for you

80's Movie Meme : Phenomena 1985 aka Creepers

I watched Phenomena in 1986 at the Quad Cinema in Makati City together with my cousin Ate Edith and niece Faye. This movie was shown in the cinemas just about the time (then) President Ferdinand Marcos declared a school break from January 28 up to February 9 to give way for the intense campaign for the 1986 snap elections. I was so happy to be in Manila that time, I have a long story for that too in my 80s diary, but haven't written an entry about that yet, ha! :D [What 80s diary, you must be asking.. get a few bits starting here]

As I was saying, we were just as happy to watch this movie Phenomena (a.k.a. Creepers) starring Jennifer Connelly. The movie was our second choice to watch because the queue for the movie "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" starring Vilma Santos and Maricel Soriano was so long.Well, Phenomena was not so bad.  I felt a little bit interested in Biology/ Science after seeing this movie. And I admired Jennifer Connelly's aristocratic character here. Oh yeah, I really like this movie.. and I can still vividly remember the scene where we really screamed our guts out.. so be warned :) I love this movie also because of the memories that go with it. I hope you enjoy too!

Presenting "A Day In Life" my series of texts from my journals that I kept between the ages of 14 and 17. I'll be adding new entries every now and then to share all my thoughts, ideas, events, experiences, memories, ideas I had during the eighties. It is for my continued amusement that I read and reread my old journals, even when there isn't much content, I still gain occasional insight how I'm still in the process of changing to maturity. Most of the names have been changed to protect the people I recently found on Facebook. A few are just partial entries, my bleeping and blinding exclamations have been removed and some entries have been modified to give way to my now correct spelling and grammar. Yet the mix of excitement, melodrama and pleasant memories from the eighties are still much felt :)I hope, as you read my old journal with me, you enjoy the same sentiments.
